Our minimum standards for constructing new homes and a guide towards additions and alterations

  • Watertight and airtight external building fabric.
    Why
Bulk water is the No.1 killer of all buildings, and as moisture can be transfer via air into your building fabric it can then condense and turn back to bulk water becoming a No.1 problem again.
  • UPVC, Timber or thermally broken aluminium double-glazed windows and doors.
    Why
Up to 40% of a home’s heating energy can be lost and up to 87% of its heat gained through windows.
Meaning, if you have high levels of insulation and poor performing windows and doors this is a major drawback in our warm climate, as the heat of the day can transfer into your home and make it very difficult to remove or reduce without the need of artificial cooling.
  • Thermal bridging removed as needed for the climate.
    Why
All materials transfer energy at different rates. Concrete and steel are two materials that transfer energy rather well, meaning heat will always travel to the cooler side resulting is higher energy consumption, uncomfortable environments, and raised risk of mould growth or structural issues.
  • Energy recovery ventilation systems (ERV’s).
    Why
ERV’s handle the removal of contaminated air, and moisture from a home while introducing greater controlled levels of fresh air to ensure a healthy internal environment, all while reducing the load for heating or cooling meaning smaller systems are required.

What we do to achieve these requirements.
The international passive house standard is arguably the pinnacle of balance between energy efficiency vs construction cost.
We use the renown Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) as a base to calculate a buildings energy usage, including air tightness. Add to this to the fact that everything is verifiable onsite to ensure your finished home will perform as required without any programming assumptions.

This level of attention is something we do for all of our new projects, and when a certified Passive House if required, we then continue the detailing and data process to ensure compliance with the best international energy efficiency and occupant health model.

This is why can offer great Sustainable Healthy Homes and Certified Passive Houses as two separate options.
